In 2011, the Royal Mint was approaching a point of change in its British Silver Britannia Series. Before the 2013 establishment of static obverse and reverse designs, the Royal Mint issued its final variation in the Britannia reverse imagery. Now, 2011 1 oz British Silver Britannia Coins are available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
British Silver Britannias featured alternating, non-repeating reverse images of Britannia in all odd-numbered years. From 1999 to 2012, the Royal Mint introduced these non-repeating, alternating images of Britannia on the reverse.
Conversely, from 1998 to 2012, all even-numbered releases in the series had alternating images of a standing Britannia figure. Included within this cycle was Philip Nathan’s depiction of Britannia which featured annually on the gold bullion coins. This 2011 release was the last to feature a unique image of Britannia as Nathan’s depiction became the static reverse in 2012.
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of 2011 1 oz Silver Britannia Coins. This design shows the Queen in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Ian Rank-Broadley created this design for the Royal Mint in 1998.
Britannia features on the reverse of the 2011 Silver British Britannia. This year’s design was created by David Mach and shows a seated Britannia in right-profile relief with the Union Jack shield and a trident in her left hand. In the background, the Union Jack flag flaps in the breeze.
These 2011 1 oz British Silver Britannia Coins are available to purchase inside individual plastic flips. This design was created by David Mach and is the last date mark not to feature Philip Nathan’s design on the BU Britannias.
