Proof American Platinum Eagles come with new designs each year. From 1997 to 2017, this new design was on the reverse of the coins. Starting in 2018, the US Mint altered its approach by changing the obverse image of Liberty each year. The Preamble to the Constitution design series within the collection was the third such focused design concept for the collection.

On the obverse of each 2010-W Proof American Platinum Eagle Coin is John Mercanti’s depiction of the Statue of Liberty. Here, his design focuses on the stoic gaze of Liberty with her crown visible as her eyes remain fixed on the horizon.
The reverse side of 2010-W 1 oz Proof Platinum Eagle Coins comes with an image of the female allegory for Justice. She is shown here with a blindfold covering her eyes to act as a symbol for impartiality. In her hands, she holds scales that have a laurel branch resting on them.
