In the obverse design of the 2010-W US Mint First Spouse Buchanan’s Liberty Gold Coin, the mint features Christian Gobrecht’s depiction of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1838, this left-profile relief of Lady Liberty was popularly used on the denominations of the US Eagle gold coin from 1838 to 1907.
The reverse side of 2010-W 1/2 oz First Spouse Buchanan’s Liberty Gold Coins features a depiction of the former President of the United States seated at a desk. Buchanan was the 15th President of the United States, served from 1857 to 1861.
