America the Beautiful coins were first released in 2010. There are five new coin designs released each year, with the program scheduled to run through 2021. Each coin in the series will celebrate a moment, person, or place from American history, representing each of the 50 US states, as well as the District of Columbia and the nation’s territories.
On the reverse side of the 2010 5 oz. Yellowstone coin is the image of a bison standing in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. As the Rocky Mountains are visible in the distance, Old Faithful is featured with steam erupting just behind the bison. Nearly 3 million visitors travel to Wyoming each year to visit the many natural wonders contained within Yellowstone.
The obverse side of the coin bears imagery identical to that of the standard-issue quarter. President George Washington’s left-profile bust is featured in the center, with multiple engravings surrounding his figure. The engravings include “United States of America,” “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and the face value of the coin.
Each coin in this listing is in near-perfect condition, with its full, original luster still visible. A near-perfect coin has no more than two flaws, and these particular coins have a proof-like appearance.
The United States Mint produces its America the Beautiful coins using coining presses at both the Philadelphia Mint and the San Francisco Mint. Many of the coins from the Philadelphia Mint bear no mint mark, while San Francisco Mint coins have an “S” mint mark.
