Each 2010 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin offered here is packaged in a protective plastic flip. The 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf is one of the smaller coins in the series, with only 1/20 oz and 1 Gram coins available in the series in a smaller format. All Canadian Gold Maple Leafs introduced after November 1982 have 24-karat gold content, or .9999 purity.
The Royal Canadian Mint introduced Gold Maple Leafs in 1979, but fractional-ounce coins were introduced until November 1982. When the Royal Canadian Mint introduced those first fractional-ounce coins, 1/10 oz and 1/4 oz gold coins were the first to debut. The mint would later introduced 1/2 oz (1986), 1/20 oz (1993), and 1 Gram (2014) gold coins to expand the series.
Obverse design elements on 2010 Canadian Gold Maple Leafs include a bust of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. From the program’s introduction in 1979, Her Majesty was the only monarch to feature on the coins in this series. Three portraits of Her Majesty appeared on the coins until her death, with the 2010 coin featuring the 2003 effigy of Elizabeth II as designed by Susanna Blunt.
Reverse visuals on 2010 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coins feature the sugar maple leaf. Designed in 1979 by Walter Ott, this image of a front-facing maple leaf has been in use consistently on the reverse of the coins. The design also features on the reverse of silver, platinum, and palladium variants of the coin.
