Each year, the United States Mint releases a proof set containing a wide variety of special-issue coins. These sets are beloved by collectors and also offer an excellent overview of the different types of coins issued by the US Mint. The set in this listing was originally released on July 17th, 2009. One of the unique aspects of this collection is that the bicentennial Lincoln cents contain an alloy of 95% copper, 3% zinc, and 2% tin to match the alloy of the original 1909 coin.
All of the coins in these 2009 US Mint Sets are proof strikes. This means that their fields will have a mirror-like quality, and that the raised devices will appear frosted. Upon delivery, you will find the coins grouped in four separate protective plastic holders. Provided with each purchase is a Certificate of Authenticity from the mint.
The obverse and reverse of these sets contain a wide variety of different designs, all bearing the 2009 date. Included in this set are the standard circulating Jefferson nickel, Roosevelt dime, Kennedy half-dollar, and Native American dollar.
Special releases found in the set include four presidential $1 coins featuring William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James Polk, and Zachary Taylor. Additionally, there are six quarters with honorary designs for the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Finally, there are four unique Lincoln cents with special bicentennial designs on the reverse fields.
