For the first time in the history of the American Silver Eagle, sales records were set in back-to-back years. The jump in demand for the Silver Eagle from 2008 to 2009 also represented the second-highest year-over-year increase in demand for the coins. However, sales records were just beginning to show signs of incredible change as the Great Recession dragged on and markets stumbled. Today, 2009 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins are available to you from JM Bullion in near-perfect condition.
Coin Highlights:
The 2009 American Silver Eagle release was memorable in a number of ways. First and foremost, the mintage of 30,459,000 marked the first time a new sales record had been set in back-to-back years. The increase of 9.9 million coins compared to 2008 was the second-highest jump in demand in program history and surpassed only by the jump of 11.5 million coins from 2007 to 2008.
Additionally, the bullion version of the 2009 Silver Eagles is unique as it is the only year in which the investment-grade coin was the only option offered. The US Mint found demand for the bullion version of the coin to be so high it could not secure enough silver blanks to produce proof and burnished versions of the coin, so both of those collectible options were suspended for the year.
All of these 2009 1 oz American Silver Eagle coins earned Mint State 69 certifications from the PCGS. Coins in this condition are considered near-perfect specimens. Each one has full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Acceptable flaws present at this grade level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines.
The obverse of 2009 American Silver Eagle coins includes the design of Walking Liberty. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this work is considered one of the two greatest American coin designs of the 20th century. On the reverse of all 2009 1 oz American Silver Eagles is the heraldic eagle of the United States. This is the modern design of the seal and it was updated in 1986 for the Silver Eagles by John Mercanti.
