Coin Highlights:
Burnished American Silver Eagle coins go through a specialized production process that results in a beautiful finish on the coins. Each silver blanks is first run through a drum with a secondary material inside that burnishes the blank for a brighter luster. The blanks are then removed by gloved hand, individually loaded into the coining presses for striking, and again removed by gloved hand.
The 2008 issue of the Burnished American Silver Eagle coin was down in mintage by roughly 90,000 coins from 621,333 in 2007 to 533,757. Though this was still higher than the first issue year, it would also be the last time the Burnished Silver Eagle would be struck until 2011. In 2009 the US Mint suspended all proof and burnished coinage to focus on bullion coins, and the Burnished Silver Eagle was again suspended in 2010.
On the obverse of all Burnished American Silver Eagle Coins, you’ll find the Walking Liberty design from Adolph A. Weinman. In this image, Liberty walks toward the sun featured on the horizon with the American flag draped over her figure with branches of oak and olive trees in her left hand.
The reverse side of the 2008-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagle coin includes John Mercanti’s modern depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The design features the American bald eagle with the national shield on its chest.
Your purchase of a 2008-W 1 oz Burnished Silver Eagle arrives inside of its original United States Mint blue display box. Included with the purchase of each coin is an individual Certificate of Authenticity.
