Each of the 2008-W 4-Coin Proof American Gold Buffalo Sets available here comes with individual plastic slabs for each of the four coins. Included in this set are 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz Gold Buffalo Coins. These coins are all PF70 specimens with full, original mint luster and no flaws. The ultra-cameo designation indicates the coins have strong, frosted designs and mirrored fields.
2008 was the only time the United States Mint issued fractional-ounce coins in the American Gold Buffalo Series. Amazingly, these Proof Gold Buffalo four-coin sets were not the only ones of their kind in 2008. The US Mint also issued a Burnished Gold Buffalo in 2008 that also included three fractional-ounce coins.
A stoic indigenous American is featured on the obverse of 2008-W Proof Gold Buffalos in this four-coin set. This figure is shown in right-profile relief. An American bison is depicted in the reverse design of each coin in the 2008-W 4-Coin Proof Gold Buffalo Set. Both of these designs were created in 1913 by James Earle Fraser.
