The 2008 iteration of the American Silver Eagle Series saw record-breaking numbers for the iconic coin program. UCAM coins are proofs that have strong, frosted design elements with deeply mirrored clear background fields.
The obverse field of all 2008-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles depicts the striking design of Walking Liberty designed by Adolph A. Weinman. This image, which was designed in 1916 for the nation’s half-dollar coin, features Liberty striding toward the setting sun on the left. Liberty is draped in the American flag whilst holding oaken branches in her left arm.
John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle of the United States is featured on the reverse side of 2013-W Proof American Silver Eagles. This image has been used since as early as 1794 but was modernized by the former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint in 1986. The front and center image is surrounded by identifying marks of the coin such as the denomination, weight, and metal.
