The imagery on the American Gold Buffalo was adapted from the beloved Buffalo Nickel, a coin first issued in 1913 and designed by James Earle Fraser. His designs were revered for their realism and tribute to America’s frontier spirit. When the Buffalo Nickel was replaced in 1938, it gave way to the familiar image of President Thomas Jefferson. The only year the US Mint issued fractional-ounce Gold Buffalos was 2008, with the release including Proof and Burnished coins in 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz options.
These 2008 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Buffalo Coins earned a perfect PR70/PF70 grade. This grade indicates a coin that showcases full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws.
