When Perth Mint introduced the Silver Kookaburra in 1990, the only other major program it offered each year was the Gold Nugget. The Gold Nugget became the Gold Kangaroo in 1990 and Perth began issuing both the Kangaroos and Kookaburras with new designs on the reverse each year going forward.
All of these 2008 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins are available for purchase with protective plastic flips. The Perth Mint offered 1 Kilo, 10 oz, 2 oz, and 1 oz coins in 2008, with unlimited mintages for the larger weights and a mintage cap of 300,000 for these 1 oz silver coins. The mint saw a complete sellout of 1 oz Silver Kookaburras in 2008.

The reverse of 2008 1 oz Silver Kookaburra Coin comes with a depiction of a kookaburra perched on barbed wire. The bird is perched on the wire fence as it looks down at the spider’s web crafted onto the wire beneath it. Kookaburras are robust birds with a large head, strong beak, and a compact body. They have a distinctive brown and white plumage, with dark brown markings on the wings and a prominent dark eye-stripe.
