Introduced with a 1 oz gold coin in 1983, the Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Series did not become an established annual collection until 2004. When the Mexican Mint stabilized the series as an annual offering, the coins were produced in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz weights, all of which have been offered annually since that time. Now, 2008 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins are available online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
For the obverse of 2008 1/10 oz Proof Gold Libertad Coins, the mint features the national coat of arms. The Mexican seal consists of a golden eagle in left-profile relief perched on a prickly pear cactus. The eagle is shown with its wings extended as it uses its talons and beak to battle a serpent.
In the reverse design of 2008 Proof Mexican Gold Libertads, you will find the iconic image of Winged Victory. The design shows the statue of Victory atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. In the background, you’ll notice the mountains of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihatl.
Prior to 2004, there were only two issues of the Proof Gold Libertad for collectors. In 1983, the Mexican Mint issued a limited number of 1 oz Proof Libertads, followed by a limited issue in 1989 consisting of 704 coins in the 1/2 oz Proof Libertad. There was not another release of Proof Gold Libertads until 2004.
These 2008 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins are available with protective plastic capsules. The mintage of 500 coins in 2008 was level with the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/20 oz coins, while the 1/4 oz coin had a higher mintage of 800. Each specimen has frosted designs and mirrored fields.
