In 2007, the United States Mint celebrated the 10th anniversary of its third iteration of the American Eagle bullion series. The American Platinum Eagle debuted in 1997 and was honored in 2007 with a special two-coin issue. Coin Highlights:
In 1997, the United States Mint introduced its new American Platinum Eagle Coin Series. The collection featured 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz platinum coins in both BU and Proof versions. In 2007, the US Mint honored the 10th anniversary of the series with a unique two-coin set.
This set includes two 1/2 oz Platinum Eagles. These coins have proof and reverse-proof visuals. The proof coin has frosted designs and mirrored fields, while the reverse proof has mirrored designs and frosted fields.
John Mercanti’s depiction of the Statue of Liberty is on the obverse of both coins in the 2007-W Proof Platinum Eagle 2-Coin Set. This design features on all weights and versions of the Platinum Eagle coins.
An American bald eagle is on the reverse of the coins in the 2007 Proof American Platinum Eagle Coin Set. This design was issued in the Foundations of Democracy Series and the image shows the eagle supporting the US national shield with its wings spread. This was the second of three designs in this particular series.
These 2007-W Proof American Platinum Eagle 2-Coin Sets come with capsules for each coin and a wooden presentation box from the US Mint. There is a Certificate of Authenticity included from the US Mint.
