Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of the 2007 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief. This design was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt and first appeared on Gold Maple Leafs in 2004. This portrait is the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen on Canadian coins and just the second designed by a Canadian artist.
The sugar maple leaf is present on the reverse side of 2007 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coins. This design was created in 1979 by Walter Ott for the debut of this series and it has never been altered or removed from the coins in this series. The design offers a natural look at the sugar maple leaf with all the striations of the leaf captured in the design.
