2006 was a special year for the American Silver Eagle program. Not only did the United States Mint release its 20th edition of the coin and a 20th anniversary set, it unveiled a brand-new series of coins in the American Silver Eagle program. The Burnished American Silver Eagle was struck for the first time that year, and right now is available from JM Bullion with a perfect MS70 grade from the Professional Coin Grading Service.
Coin Highlights:
One of the two most stringent grading services in the world, the PCGS issues Mint State 70 grades only to coins it has certified as perfectly struck. An MS70 coin has no contact marks, blemishes, or hairlines visible anywhere on its surface. Each of the coins available in this listing bears a “W” mint mark, identifying them as products of the West Point Mint. These coins are particularly rare because, in addition to their MS70 grade, they originated from the first year of production.
Burnished American Silver Eagle coins are struck using a special process at the United States Mint. Using a similar process to that which results in the proof coins in the series, a burnished blank is hand loaded into the Mint’s coining press before being struck with the die. The result is a coin with a satin finish that is ideal for display and exhibition.
On the obverse side of each coin is the standard image for American Silver Eagle coins: Walking Liberty. The reverse bears a depiction of the heraldic eagle as created by US Mint chief engraver John Mercanti. Every American Silver Eagle coin is struck using .999 fine silver and carries a face value of $1.
The United States Mint produces American Silver Eagle coins at its Philadelphia, San Francisco, and West Point Mints. However, only the West Point Mint produces the Burnished American Silver Eagle coins.
