2006 serves as the 20th anniversary of the popular American Silver Eagle series from the United States Mint. This coin along with its gold counterpart was introduced as the official bullion coins of the nation back in 1986. However, also being struck at the West Point Mint are proof and burnished versions of the iconic silver coin. The 2006-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coin is available for purchase now at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
2006 saw a near-record high at the time of combined mintage in the American Silver Eagle Series. The 12.23 million coins struck were only topped by the 1987 coin, at the time. 2006 also marked the first time since 1986 that over 1 million proofs were struck.
2006-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagles will be encapsulated in NGC protective plastic slabs. UCAM proofs have strong, frosted design elements with deeply mirrored clear background fields. These PF69 coins feature their full, original mint luster and no more than two minor detractions. This classifies as a near-perfect condition.
The obverse of all 2006-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles features the Walking Liberty design of Adolph A. Weinman. This image can also be seen on the half-dollar from 1916-1947. Liberty is seen walking towards the sunset draped in the American flag while holding oaken branches.
The modernized heraldic eagle can be seen on the reverse side of 2006-W Proof American Silver Eagles. This image, designed by former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, features 13 five-point stars above the eagle’s head. Identifying marks surround the image.
