American Silver Eagle coins celebrated 20 years in production in 2006. As part of the US Mint’s celebration for the series, several additional coins were issued alongside the standard BU and Proof coins. All of the issues from the mint proved popular that year, with proof coins nearly setting a new record for a single-year mintage. Today, near-perfect 2006-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins are available to you online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The 2006 release of American Silver Eagles to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series included a total of four different coins. The US Mint issued its traditional BU and W-Proof Silver Eagle coins. Additionally, the mint introduced the new Burnished Silver Eagle in 2006. Further, the mint struck a one-time Reverse Proof Silver Eagle at the Philadelphia Mint and gave the coins a P mint mark.
All of the 2006-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins listed here are near-perfect specimens. Coins in this condition exhibit full, original mint luster and come with no more than two minor detractions. These flaws are located outside of the primary focal points of the coin and must not exceed minuscule contact marks or hairlines in nature. The UCAM designation stands for ultra-cameo and points to the special proof visuals present on the coin. UCAM coins have strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear fields.
On the obverse of 2006-W Proof American Silver Eagles is a design known as Walking Liberty. This design was created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916 for the US Mint to use on the half dollar. The image shows Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon carrying branches of oak and laurel. The design element includes an American flag draped around her figure.
The reverse side of the 2006-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle comes with John Mercanti’s version of the heraldic eagle. Modernized for this series in 1986, the design shows a front-facing bald eagle clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. The bird supports the US National Shield on its chest.
