All three of the fractional weights in the Proof American Gold Eagle Collection experienced flat demand. The introduction of a second collectible gold coin, the Burnished American Gold Eagle, lured some of the typical collectors away from the Proof American Gold Eagle collection.
The Proof American Gold Eagle fractional weights suffered an additional blow to demand with the release of special commemorative sets for the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle Collection. The commemorative sets included special reverse proof issues, additional 1 oz Proof Gold Eagles, and the new 1 oz Burnished Gold Eagle.
All 2006 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins offered here in this listing have PF70 certifications from the NGC. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws on the surface areas or design elements of the coin. Ultra-cameo coins, as the UCAM label denotes, means these coins have strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
On the obverse side of the 2006 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coin is an image of Liberty. This design was used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle coin from 1907 to 1933 and was designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the United States Mint.
The reverse field of the 2006 Proof American Gold Eagles includes an exclusive design not found on other American coinage. This image was created by Miley Busiek and depicts an entire family of eagles. The male eagle is above the nest as a female watches over the hatchling in the nest.
