The Proof American Gold Eagle coins experienced an odd phenomenon in 2006. As the United States Mint celebrated the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle Collection, the 1 oz coin soared higher, but all three fractional weights actually experienced a drop in demand and mintage. Right now, 2006 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagles are available to purchase online from JM Bullion with perfect certifications.

The 20th-anniversary release of American Eagles in 2006 saw the fractional-weight coins suffer as a result of the focus on commemorative sets for the year. The 1 oz coin in the Proof Gold Eagle Series was included in a 3-Coin Proof Gold Eagle 20th Anniversary Set with a proof, reverse proof, and burnished version of the coin.
As far as the fractional weights go, demand was in line with previous years. The 1/2 oz coin went up in mintage by a scant 11 coins compared to the previous issue. Meanwhile, the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins saw demand fall slightly more.
The obverse of 2006 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagles features a design of Lady Liberty. Created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the image was used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle through 1933.
On the reverse of the 2006 Proof American Gold Eagle Coins is a design of American bald eagles. There is a male flying over the nest while a female sits in the nest with a hatchling under its wing.
