Coin Highlights:
While the mintage figure of each individual Proof American Gold Eagle rose in 2005, the 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle issued in 2005 had a mintage increase nearly double that of any other individual coin. Its overall mintage of 49,265 coins was 12,000 more than the closest of its competitors and marked an increase over the 2004 1/10 oz Proof Gold Eagle of 14,134 coins. This was the highest mintage figure for the 1/10 oz coin since the 1996 issue and its mintage of 57,047.
All of the 2005 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coins listed here today earned PF70 certifications from the NGC. Considered perfect specimens, each of the coins exhibits its full, original mint luster and lacks any signs of detracting flaws. The UCAM label indicates these specimens have strong, frosted designs combined with deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
On the obverse of all Proof American Gold Eagle Coins is the image of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this image was the catalyst in a movement to redesign all circulation US currency. It originally appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle through 1933.
The reverse side of the 2005 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle includes the design of American bald eagles from Miley Busiek. Specifically, this image includes a male eagle flying over the family nest where a female eagle shelters a young hatchling.
