The US Mint has been releasing Proof Sets since 1936. These coins are circulation coins that are struck as proofs and set aside for these collectors’ sets. In 2004, these sets started containing 11 coins with a face value of $2.96 per set. The 2005 US Mint Proof Set continues that tradition, and you can order one right here at JM Bullion.
Coin Set Highlights:
The United States Mint first issued proof sets back in 1936. These were issued annually until 1942. They returned in 1950 and were released annually until 1964. They made a comeback again in 1968 and have been struck every year since then. These sets are struck by the San Francisco Mint which primarily handles proof coinage for the US Mint.
This 2005 US Mint Proof Set will contain a total of 11 coins, all issued in 2005. The set includes a Lincoln Cent, Roosevelt Dime, Kennedy Half Dollar, and a Sacagawea Dollar. Two Jefferson Nickels are also included. Each nickel is from the Westward Journey Series with one showing the American Bison on the reverse, the other displaying the Pacific Ocean. The other 5 coins are all quarters from the Statehood Quarter Series. The 5 in this set are California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, and West Virginia. All 11 coins are proof strikes.
The combined face value of each set is $2.96. These coins will also display the “S” mint mark from the San Francisco Mint. Please keep in mind that while all 11 coins will arrive in a plastic case, some aspects of the original packaging may be missing. Furthermore, the case may show some signs of wear and tear.
