Somalia Silver Elephant coins are part of a larger program from the Bavarian State Mint that includes a silver and gold version of this coin, with bullion and proof available in both precious metals. The coins were first introduced in 2004, making these 2005 1 oz. Somalia Silver Elephants part of the second production year.
Each coin in this product listing is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This indicates that the coin has no signs of wear and tear from circulation, but it may have breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from the striking process.

In the depiction, a pair of leopards are featured standing on either side of a heraldic shield, which bears a single star in the middle of a field of horizontal bars. Engravings on this side including “Somali Republic,” the year of minting, and the coin’s face value.
The reverse features the unique image of an African elephant found only on the 2005 1 oz Somalia Silver Elephant coin. In this depiction, the head of an adult elephant is featured as its rears back to trumpet from its long nose. Engravings include “African Wildlife” and “Elephant,” along with the weight, metal content, and purity of the coin.
These coins were limited to just 5,000 for a total mintage in 2005 by the Bavarian State Mint. Founded in 1158, the Bavarian State Mint is the oldest in Germany and serves as one of the official sovereign mints of the nation.

“The priciest of the Somalia BU coins. I have to have them all. It is not any better than the other art designs. Keep in mind only 5000 were minted. Get them while you can or you will have holes in your collection. I shop on many sites for gold and silver. JM has the best selection by far.”
