American Silver Eagle coins feature the image of Walking Liberty on the obverse face. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this image is one of the greatest to ever grace an American coin. Weinman created his image as part of a greater effort from the Treasury Department and the United States Mint to refine the designs on all American circulation coinage.
Each of the 2005 Proof American Silver Eagle coins in this JM Bullion listing has a perfect grade of PF70 from the NGC. Coins in this condition have their full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind on the surface.
The ultra-cameo designation of these coins means that the design sets and background field have drastically different appearances. The design sets have a strong, frosted finish, while the background field is deeply mirrored and clear.
On the obverse is Weinman’s Walking Liberty design, first used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947. The reverse features the heraldic eagle. A classic design on American coinage, this particular version was created in 1986 by US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti with modern improvements to the design.
Each 2005 Proof American Silver Eagle in this listing is from the West Point Mint. Proof specimens in this program were originally struck at the San Francisco Mint from 1986 to 1992. Production shifted to the Philadelphia Mint from 1993 to 2000, before shifting one last time to the West Point Mint in 2001.
