The American Gold Eagle coin is the official gold bullion product of the US Mint. Beginning in 1986, Proof Gold Eagles were only available in the 1 oz weight. In 1987, the 1/2 oz weight was added, followed by the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz weights in 1988. This 4-coin set contains one of each of these weights. The Proof American Gold Eagle coins are struck in 22-karat gold and minted at the West Point Mint. Currently, this 2004-W 4-Coin Proof American Gold Eagle Set is available for purchase from JM Bullion.

Each American Gold Eagle coin is composed of 91.67% gold, in addition to 3% silver and 5.33% copper to make them more durable. Each of these coins bears a W mint mark on the obverse, indicating it was struck at the West Point Mint. The coins also come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
The obverse of the 2004-W American Gold Eagle coin, regardless of weight, features a walking Lady Liberty. Commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1904, this particular design was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and depicts a full-length figure of Lady Liberty walking, her hair flowing, carrying a torch in her extended right hand and an olive branch in her left hand.
The reverse of the 2004-W American Gold Eagle coin, also regardless of weight, features a male eagle, carrying an olive branch, flying towards a nest with a female eagle and a couple of eaglets.
