The Proof American Platinum Eagle Series holds a special place among American bullion coins. First released in 1997, the Proof Platinum Eagle featured new reverse designs annually through 2017 and new obverse designs each year through 2025. The 2004 Proof Platinum Eagle Series was part of the final issues in the Vistas of Liberty design subset. Now, 2004 Proof American Platinum Eagle 4-Coin Sets are available online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 2004 Proof Platinum Eagle Coins features the image of Lady Liberty. This design features the face of Liberty from the Statue of Liberty and was originally created in 1997 by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, exclusively for the Platinum Eagle Series.
On the reverse of the 2004 Proof American Platinum Eagle, you will find a design showcasing Daniel Chester French’s statue known as America from the outside of the U.S. Customs House in New York City. The image shows a seated female figure with a torch in her right hand and an American bald eagle at her feet.
The 2004 Proof Platinum Eagle release is one of just four in the program’s history that does not fall into a themed design subset. The other releases include the 2003 Proof Platinum Eagle with its depiction of an American bald eagle and the US flag on a pine tree, as well as the 1997 and 2017 coins with the original depiction of an eagle in flight.
Each 2004 Proof American Platinum Eagle 4-Coin Set includes four coins housed in individual capsules. All four coins arrive together in a presentation box. The set consists of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz platinum coins, each struck in .9995 pure platinum with face values designated in US Dollars.
