Regularly one of the two lower-minted coins in the series, the 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle is popular when gold prices rise, but it fails to reach the level of the 1/10 oz gold coin or the 1 oz gold coin. Over the course of time, the 1/4 oz Gold Eagle has seen its demand ebb and flow. Today, 2004 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are available to you online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Gold Eagle BU coins from the United States Mint are issued on an annual basis. The legislation passed by Congress authorizing the production of Gold Eagle bullion coins requires the US Mint to strike the BU version of the coin to match demand each year. As such, there can be great swings in mintage figures for the gold coins in this series as demand ebbs and flows with market factors.
All of the 2004 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins available in this listing come to you with individual protective flips. The 2004 release of the coins had a mintage of 72,014. Unlike the other three weights in the series this year, the 1/4 oz Gold Eagle actually saw its mintage fall from the previous release.
On the obverse of 2004 American Gold Eagle Coins is an effigy of Lady Liberty. This portrait of Liberty shows her figure in front-facing relief with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The design element includes the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet with sun rays on the horizon behind her figure and a ring of 50 stars around the design element.
The reverse side of the 2004 1/4 oz Gold Eagle comes with a depiction of a family of American bald eagles. The design comes from Miley Busiek and was created for this series in 1986. It shows a male eagle soaring over the nest as a female eagle guards young hatchlings within the nest.
