With this set release, these quarters now hold actual silver content and are made with 90% silver and 10% copper. The proof finish included on each quarter means that the coin’s background is shown as mirrored while the design itself appears frosted. This gives a great visual element for the viewer to enjoy.
The United States Quarters Program first begin in 1999 and ran through the year 2008. Each year, the U.S. Mint released five new state coins to commemorate or represent something specific about each state. Coins in this program has been released in order of state ratification into the Union, which is why they hold so much historical significance, and why coin collectors everywhere continue to love these special bullion products.
The obverse of each coin in this set shows the portrait of George Washington. This side-facing effigy of Washington was originally created in 1932 by John Flanagan. Still today, this portrait of the first official United States president appears on the obverse of the U.S. quarter. Washington is famously known for his role as a leader in United States history. He was also one of America’s Founding Fathers.
