Mintage levels would stabilize in the years to come, but it was clear that the American Silver Eagle’s bullion and proof versions were gaining popularity that would see it maintain higher mintage levels than in the 1980s and 1990s.

Weinman, this depiction of Liberty appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947 and is widely considered one of the finest coin designs from America’s Golden Age of coin design.
The reverse of the 2002-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle Coin features the heraldic eagle of the United States. Used on American coins as early as 1794, this depiction of the eagle is a modernized version from former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, John Mercanti.
