While other bullion coins from the United States Mint were surging in popularity and mintage at the turn of the 21st century, the Proof American Gold Eagle saw its mintage levels shrinking throughout the early 2000s. Right now, the 2002-W 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coin is available as a perfect specimen courtesy of JM Bullion.

In 2000, the Proof American Gold Eagle coins hit a high in production powered, in part, by the worries surrounding the digital transition of computer system and Y2K. The impact on the economy drove more investors and collectors to US Mint coins, providing a boost that powered 1/4 oz coins to a mintage of 36,000.
By 2002, the American Gold Eagles 1/4 oz coin had sunk to 29,000 coins in total. While still below the highs of 1999 and 2000, this marked a significant improvement compared to the prior year of 2001.
The 2002-W 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coins in this listing feature PR70 grades from the PCGS. Coins in this condition include full, original mint luster and feature no detracting flaws of any kind.
Deep-cameo is a unique finish on the surface of proof coins. The DCAM designation is for coins with a strong, frosted matte finish on the design set and a deeply-mirrored, clear background field that results in great contrast between the designs.
On the obverse face of the coin is the Liberty image, taken from the $20 Gold Double Eagle coin which was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The reverse face includes an American bald eagle design from Miley Busiek, which is featured exclusively on the American Gold Eagle.
