The US Mint’s State Quarters Programs was one of the most successful commemorative collections in recent history. Designed as a commemorative circulation series, the State Quarters Program reimagined the reverse of the circulation US Quarter with designs representing each one of the 50 states in the Union. Each date marked offered five unique designs representing different states. Today, 2002 US Mint Proof Quarter Sets are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Set Highlights:
The State Quarters Program was released from 1999 to 2008 with five new designs per date mark. The coins were issued in the order that each state either ratified the US Constitution following the Revolutionary War, or later, by the state’s admission into the Union following the formation of the country. The 2002 release is the last one to feature a state design honoring a state admitted into the Union in the 18th century.
All of these 2002 US Mint Proof Quarter Sets come with five individual coins bearing 2002 date marks. The coins are packaged together in a hard plastic case and come with proof visuals that include frosted designs and mirrored fields. Though these are commemorative in nature, the coins are not precious metals specimens. Each one has a cupro-nickel alloy consisting of copper and nickel.
On the obverse of each coin in the 2002 US Mint Proof Quarter Sets, you will find the left-profile portrait of President George Washington. This design was created in 1932 by John Flanagan and is based on an 18th-century bust of Washington. The reverse of the coins offer designs for each of the five states represented this year. These include Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, and Mississippi.
