The Australian Lunar Horse released in 2002 honored the Year of the Horse on the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Part of the Lunar Series I program at Perth Mint, these coins were some of the first silver bullion coins in the Lunar Series collections from Perth. Today, 2002 1 oz Australian Silver Lunar Horse Coins are available to you online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
In 2002, the Lunar Series I program enjoyed its seventh release in the planned 12-coin collection. The 1 oz silver coins were available, however, for just the fourth time. While the program debuted in 1996, silver coins weren’t issued until 1999.
All of these 2002 1 oz Australian Silver Lunar Horse Coins are available to you for purchase with individual acrylic capsules. The final mintage for the 1 oz coin in 2002 was 99,632 coins. The Perth Mint offered a cap of 300,000 coins in the 1 oz option for 2002.
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of 2002 Australian Silver Lunar Horse Coins. This design comes from Ian Rank-Broadley and was created in 1998 for the Royal Mint. This effigy shows the Queen in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
A sprinting horse is depicted in the reverse field of the 2002 1 oz Silver Lunar Horse Coins. This design captures the full figure of the creature in left-profile relief as it sprints at full stretch along the field of the coin.
The 2002 release of Australian Silver Lunar Horse Coins included 1 Kilo, 10 oz, 2 oz, 1 oz, and 1/2 oz coins. The 1 oz and 1/2 oz coins had the highest mintages, respectively, and were the only coins with a mintage cap.
