After lackluster demand throughout the 1990s, the Silver Eagle would rebound in the early 2000s before reaching all-time highs in the 2010s. The 2001 release of the Proof American Silver Eagle was notable on two accounts. First and foremost, this was the first issue of the Proof Silver Eagle at the West Point Mint with a W mint mark. Additionally, the mintage was the highest the Proof Silver Eagle had seen since 1987.
All of these 2001-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins are near-perfect specimens. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster and come with a maximum of two minor detractions. These flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside the primary focal points.
UCAM specimens are proof coins with ultra-cameo visuals. This designation indicates coins that have strong, frosted design elements and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
On the obverse of 2001-W Proof American Silver Eagle Coins is Walking Liberty. This design from Adolph A. Weinman shows Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon with the American flag draped over her figure.
The reverse side of the 2001-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle Coin comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle. Designed in 1986 by John Mercanti, this version of the national seal includes a front-facing bald eagle with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
