Issued in 1986, the Proof American Gold Eagle Coin is the proof version of the official gold bullion coin of the United States of America. Like other gold bullion coins, it features the same popular designs which made it extremely sought-after amongst collectors and investors. Today, JM Bullion offers you the 2001-W 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin!
Coin Highlights:
First issued in 1986, the American gold Eagle collection was launched alongside its sister counterpart, the American Silver Eagle. Both have gone on to be juggernauts in their respective markets. The Proof versions of the American Gold Eagles were minted in 1988 with resounding success and high demand. Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Miley Busiek are the two sculptors who are responsible for the iconic imagery featured on the obverse and reverse of the coins respectively.
On the obverse, a modern reproduction of Lady Liberty is depicted. She is seen marching from the capitol with a flaming torch and a symbolic olive branch in both hands. She is beautiful and graceful under the bright rays of the sun below her feet. There are two inscriptions featured and they include “LIBERTY” and the year of mintage.
For the reverse of the 2002-W 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin, private artist and sculptor Miley Busiek is credited for the imagery. It features a male bald eagle flying over the family nest, which contains a group of hatchlings and the female eagle standing guard.
Although the Mint operates four major facilities, the Proof American Gold Eagles are only struck at the West Point Mint in New York. Each coin bears a W mint mark as an identifying marker.
