During the early years of availability for the American Platinum Eagle, the series offered BU and Proof coins in both 1 oz platinum and three fractional-ounce weights. While the fractional-ounce weights are no longer available with new releases after 2008, you can still find certified specimens from these past releases. Today, 2001-W 1/10 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins in perfect condition are available to you online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The 2001 release of Proof American Platinum Eagles came during the Vistas of Liberty design series. This special series within the Proof Platinum Eagle collection was based on Thomas D. Rogers’ original 1997 design of an American bald eagle soaring over America. From 1998 to 2002, the US Mint offered new reverse designs showing the bald eagle in flight over different parts of the country.
All of these 2001-W 1/10 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins are available to you in perfect condition. PF70 coins have full, original mint luster and no flaws. UCAM stands for ultra-cameo proof and refers to coins with strong, frosted designs overlaying deeply-mirrored, clear fields.
On the obverse of 2001-W Proof American Platinum Eagles is a depiction of Lady Liberty. This design is exclusive to the Platinum Eagle Series and is the only Liberty effigy among the four versions of the American Eagle not to use a historic version of Liberty. John Mercanti created this effigy of Liberty based on the Statue of Liberty visuals specifically for this series in 1997.
The reverse side of the 2001-W 1/10 oz Proof Platinum Eagle features a depiction of a bald eagle as it soars over a giant Saguaro cactus in the American Southwest. Thomas D. Rogers created this design in the Vistas of Liberty Series. It was his third design contribution to the Platinum Eagle Series in its first five years in production.
The 2001-W 1/10 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle had a total mintage of 52,017 coins. This was the highest of the four weights in 2001 by more than double the next closest coin. It was also the third-highest mintage in the 1/10 oz weight during its 1997-2008 production run.
