The 2000-W 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin was struck using 22 karats of actual gold. In fact, this coin is actually made with a metal combination of the following: 91.67% gold, 3% silver, and 5.33% copper. This coin also features a proof finish, indicating that the background of each side is mirrored while the designs themselves are frosted. When you order from JM Bullion, your purchase will arrive in a themed presentation box and include a Certificate of Authenticity.
The American Gold Eagle Coin collection was first introduced in 1987, but it wasn’t until 1988 that the 1/10 oz fractional-weight denomination joined the series. Originally produced by the Philadelphia Mint, this fractional-weight coin joined many other weight denominations in the series—1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/4 oz. In 1994, the production of the 1/10 oz coin moved permanently to the West Point Mint. The “W” mint marking included on this release for 2000 indicates that the coin was manufactured by the West Point Mint.
The obverse of the 2000-W 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin includes the image of Lady Liberty, which is taken from the Double Eagle design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, which was featured on U.S. twenty-dollar gold pieces from the years 1907 to 1933. In the image, Lady Liberty strides forward, her hair blowing back majestically in the wind. She holds a torch in her left hand and an olive branch in her right.
The reverse of the 2000-W 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin shows a family of eagles, which is a design created by renowned sculptor Miley Busiek. In the image, a male eagle flies overhead, carrying an olive branch between its talons. The female eagle and hatchlings wait patiently in the nest for his arrival. Certain specs of the coin are also featured on the reverse, including its weight, value, and purity.
