With its historical significance and compositional value, the $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin is a welcomed addition to any private collection or investment portfolio. The Liberty Double Eagle was first issued in 1850 and holds the distinction of being the largest coin denomination ever issued during its time.
It also boasted a gold fineness of .90, making it among the most valuable coins as well. All $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins included in this collection from JM Bullion are in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) condition.
Coin Highlights:
The design for the Liberty Double Eagle coin was conceived by John B. Longacre. It displays the eponymous Liberty Head on its obverse. Longacre drew inspiration for his portrait from the images of royalty found on ancient Greco-Roman currency. He depicted Lady Liberty in profile, encircled by a series of 13 stars in honor of the original colonies. In her elaborate curls, she wears a diadem inscribed with her name to emphasize. Longacre's portrait illustrates how Liberty or "freedom" would be the primary ruling force of the US.
On the reverse side of his Double Eagle, Longacre presents the Great Seal of the US. This celebrated emblem consists of a bald eagle carrying a star-spangled shield with its powerful wings. In its talons, it balances a set of arrows with an olive branch. Please be advised that three versions of this design exist: the original; a second one that includes the phrase, "In God We Trust;" and a third one with the word, "Dollar," fully spelled out. Customers should note that because coin distribution is dependent upon availability at the time of order placement, JM Bullion cannot disclose which version of the US Seal will appear on the reverse side of the coin.
