In June 2018, then-President Donald J. Trump issued a directive to the Pentagon to begin planning for the addition of a possible sixth branch to the United States Military. This branch would dominion over US Military operations based in and revolving around the space domain. The new United States Space Force is a sister-branch to the United States Air Force and is housed within the Department of the Air Force within the Department of Defense.
