JM Bullion is pleased to offer a new legal tender note in celebration of Starry Night! This legendary 1889 painting by Vincent Van Gogh depicts a dreamlike village beneath the night sky. Through proprietary methods, this image has been applied to the front of a $2 bill by the Merrick Mint. Today, $2 Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh Legal Tender Notes are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Note Highlights:
Vincent Van Gogh painted Starry Night during a year-long stint at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole Asylum, where he was recovering from an emotional breakdown. Van Gogh would observe the night sky from his bedroom, where the stars took on color and shape beyond mere white dots against a sea of black. Because he was prohibited from painting in his room, the artist worked from his imagination as he produced Starry Night. While Van Gogh personally disliked the painting, it has since been cited as one of his finest works. It is currently on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Each $2 Starry Night Note is authentic US legal tender. After removing them from crisp stacks of $2 bills, the Merrick Mint then employed a proprietary method that enabled them to apply an image of Starry Night against the backdrop of each bill. Included with each note is a protective blue folio booklet and a Certificate of Authenticity.
The obverse of Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh Legal Tender Notes features Thomas Jefferson in the center. The backdrop consists of a portion of the classic painting known as Starry Night. While we don’t see the work in its entirety, we can make out some of its hallmarks, including the flame-like trees and swirling moon. Notations include Vincent Van Gogh, The Starry Night 1889, and Famous Masterpieces.
On the reverse side of $2 Starry Night Legal Tender Notes is a recreation of John Trumbull’s Declaration of Independence painting. This is the image you will find on all $2 bills issued since 1976. It depicts several of the Founding Fathers showing a draft of the Declaration to John Hancock. Members of Congress are seen in the background.
