The Silver Bug High Relief Series of rounds share a lot of common features. First and foremost, each one has deep-domed radial sunbursts in the background field to provide contrast and a level of security in the production of the round. There is also a stippled border around the very edge of the design field on each.
In this 3rd release in the collection, the thick striking and beautiful finish of these rounds remains evident. Each round starts as a 39mm blank, creating increased high-relief visualization for the design compared to a 2 oz round struck on a 50mm blank that creates a thinner finished product.
On the obverse of the 2 oz Dynastinae Rhinoceros Beetle Silver High Relief Round is the image of the namesake beetle. Other shared features in the series include the engravings of “All Hail the Silver Bug” and “In Silver We Trust” on the obverse. The rhinoceros beetle, as it’s commonly known, is a member of the subfamily of scarab beetles, which featured as the first design release in this collection.
The reverse of all 2 oz Rhinoceros Beetle Silver High Relief Rounds includes the Intaglio Mint logo. This design includes a pillar in the shape of a capital “I,” and has engravings of the mint name and founding year around it. The very edges includes the weight, purity, and metal content of the round.
Intaglio Mint was founded in 2010 by coin collector and enthusiast Mark Bogani. Today the mint remains a small operation, and is located in the city of Waco, Texas.
