The Buffalo Nickel from the United States Mint was first issued in 1913 and continued in circulation with one of the nation’s greatest designs until 1938. The Buffalo Nickel was also known to some as the Indian Nickel and was designed by James Earle Fraser during the administration of President William Howard Taft to continue the work started during President Theodore Roosevelt’s administration. Today, 2 oz Buffalo Silver Rounds are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Round Highlights:
In 1911, the US government’s drive to replace all coin designs continued with the decision to refresh the appearance of the circulation nickel. The vast majority of coins in circulation in the US at this point in time had designs from US Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber. In most cases, these designs were created around 1892 and focused on various depictions of Lady Liberty.
All of these unique 2 oz Buffalo Silver Rounds from the Intaglio Mint are available with protective packaging and reflect the stunning designs based on Fraser’s original artwork. Each silver round in this offering is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
On the obverse side of each 2 oz Buffalo Silver Round is the right-profile portrait of an indigenous tribal figure. Fraser’s design includes the image of a peaceful, yet strong figure with woven hair down one shoulder and feathers laced within his long hair. The word “Liberty” is engraved at about 2 o’clock on the design rim. In the lower-left field, around 7 o’clock, are engravings of “1913” and “F.” The date marks the first year of issue for the original Buffalo Nickel and the last initial of the designer.
The reverse side of 2 oz Buffalo Silver Rounds features the same design found on the Buffalo Nickel. An American bison is depicted here in left-profile relief as it stands on a small dirt mound. The engravings “United States of America” and “E Pluribus Unum” feature above the design as “Two Troy Ounces .999 Fine Silver” is engraved below. There is also an Intaglio Mint mark between the weight and purity inscriptions.
Intaglio Mint is a small private mint in the United States with designs that are painstakingly, and lovingly, crafted by the three-man team of devoted numismatists. These 2 oz Buffalo Silver Rounds appear in the mint’s Modern Tribute Series that depicts various historic US coin designs.
