The popular Aztec Calendar design is already available on 1 oz and 5 oz silver rounds, and now this intricately-struck design appears on a third silver round option for investors and collectors. The new 2 oz version of the round is available with the same beautiful obverse and reverse design elements. Today, 2 oz Aztec Calendar Silver Rounds are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Round Highlights:
The intricate design on the obverse of these silver rounds is based on an actual Aztec artifact discovered by crews remodeling the Mexico City Cathedral in December 1790. Known as the sun stone, the Aztec Calendar was used by the empire to track its monthly calendar and featured homages to the Aztec sun god, Tonatiuh.
All 2 oz Aztec Calendar Silver Rounds from Golden State Mint (GSM) in this product listing are available to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The rounds are available individually inside of protective plastic flips. These designs are the same as the previously released 1 oz and 5 oz rounds.
On the obverse side of 2 oz Aztec Calendar Silver Rounds is an exact recreation of the images and symbolism from the Aztec Sun Stone. In the very center disk of the design, you’ll find the Aztec sun god Tonatiuh. His face is depicted with a sharp tongue representing a stone sacrificial knife. He has two clawed hands, each one holding a human heart. Sacrifices to appease the gods were common in the Aztec Empire.
Other elements of the design on this side of the silver round include signs representing the 20 days within the 18 months of the Aztec solar calendar. Two fire serpents make up the entirety of the outer ring design.
The reverse of 2 oz Aztec Calendar Silver Rounds features a left-profile portrait of Cuauhtemoc. By the time of his reign, the Aztec Empire had been brought to its knees through disease and warfare with both neighboring tribes and the invading Spanish conquistadors. Cuauhtemoc was chosen as the leader of the Aztecs following the deaths of Moctezuma II and Cuitlahuac. Cuauhtemoc was captured by the Spanish in August 1521 as the Aztec’s capital city fell to the Spanish.

"I am new to silver stacking, so I'm still not very familiar with the quality of different coins, but am very happy with my purchase. The detail is incredible and look incredibly well made. If I didn't have the desire to stack government minted coins going forward, I would definitely buy again!"
