President Franklin Roosevelt is well known for his many efforts to combat the Great Depression. Among them was the collection of all gold coins in circulation to melt down into gold bars. Investors, collectors, and history buffs alike deem Pre-1933 gold coins as must-have products because of their rarity. You now have the chance to purchase a Pre-1933 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle coin from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The collection and subsequent melting of Pre-1933 gold coins created an intense demand for those select coins that survived the collection. These coins are popular not only for their gold content, but also for their extremely limited availability. The $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle featured an odd half-denomination on its face, but was not the first coin in the series to feature this face value.
What made the Pre-1933 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle unique was the engraving of its designs. Rather than raised design sets, these coins feature sunken designs known as “incuse-relief style.” These were the first coins ever struck by the United States Mint using this technique.
On the reverse side of each coin is the image of a bald eagle. In the image, the eagle is featured atop a quiver of arrows. There is also an olive branch wrapped around the quiver. The obverse face of the coin bears the image of a Native American chieftain in full headdress. His image is shown in left-profile relief. Bela Lyon Pratt designed the images used on both sides of the coin.
Struck by the United States Mint at its Philadelphia and Denver facilities, the Pre-1933 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle coins in this product listing are available in Extra Fine (XF) condition. Coins in XF condition have small amounts of wear on the highest points of the coin’s design, and some of the original luster remains.
