The United States Mint first released the $2.5 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle Coin in 1840 and continued its mintage until 1907. The gold content of each coin measures .12094 troy oz. All the Liberty Gold Eagle coins in this collection have been certified by the NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) or the PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) with an MS64 (Mint State 64) grade. Coins with this particular grade are characterized by a worn but acceptable appearance. Their original luster will seem visibly scuffed by a number of hairline and contact marks. As a protective measure, every coin has been individually sealed in their NGC or PCGS certified slab to maintain their certified mint state.

The Liberty Eagle coin’s design combines elements of Greco-Roman Art with iconic American emblems. The front image of the coin features a classically inspired rendition of Lady Liberty in profile. Encircling her portrait is a series of thirteen stars, which represent the original thirteen colonies. The coin’s mintage year appears beneath her.
The reverse side of the coin features this nation’s unofficial coat of arms, the Great Seal of the United States. This crest depicts the bald eagle as it spreads its wings behind a large shield. In its talons, it holds an olive branch and a set of arrows to represent America’s patriotic endeavors to maintain and protect the established sense of peace. The words “E Pluribus Unum” are printed on an unfurling banner beneath it. It should be noted that the text near the edge of the coin may vary depending on its mintage due to a small design change in 1877. Another slight variation worth mentioning is the “In God We Trust” phrase above the eagle, which will only appear on coins minted after 1866.
