The evolution of the US Mint’s offering of gold coins has come a long way since the first coins rolled off the production line in the late 18th century. While the $2.5 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle gold coin was not first minted until 1840, it gives investors and collectors a glimpse into just how far the US Mint has come.
Coin Highlights:
If you are at all familiar with modern-day US coins, you will quickly recognize that the Liberty Head Quarter Eagle’s design is the inspiration for many coins produced nowadays. The coin is made up of 90% pure gold and boasts .12094 troy ounces of the yellow metal. The obverse side of the Quarter Eagle depicts Ben West’s rendering of Lady Liberty facing leftward. Lady Liberty is wearing a coronet with the inscription “Liberty” on it. Also featured on the obverse side of the coin is a marking indicating the year in which the coin was minted. The coin’s reverse depicts an American eagle who is clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons and wearing a protective shield across its chest. The words “United States of America” round the outer edges of the reverse, as does the $2.5 face value.
Few other coins from this era boast the type of intricacy found on the Liberty Head, part of the reason why it is so attractive to collectors. What’s more, the coin’s high purity combined with its general rarity make it a great investment vehicle as well. At JM Bullion, we fully understand that the safety of your bullion is your top priority so we do our best to protect and secure every coin before they are dispatched. Additionally, we fully insure every shipment as to prevent you from having to deal with lost or damaged goods.
