The $2.50 Indian Quarter Eagle Gold Coin was first introduced by the US Mint in 1908 and would continue to be produced until 1929. Each coin was struck using .12094 troy ounces of .900 pure gold with a $2.50 face value. Each of the coins in this listing have been certified by either the PCGS or NGC and given a grade of Mint State 65. All coins will ship in their protective certified case which features a label indicating their condition and a unique certification number.
Coin Highlights:
The $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle Coin was introduced in 1908 to replace the previous $2.50 Liberty Quarter Eagle. What makes these coins unique to others produced by the US Mint for circulation prior to 1933 was the fact that their design is incuse. All other coins that preceded it featured a raised design. This, along with other things, has lead to immense popularity among collectors today.
The obverse, and where the coin gets its name, features the image of a Native American chieftain. He is shown with a stern look on his face and is wearing a traditional Native American headdress. Above his head is the word “LIBERTY” which is surrounded by 13 stars, representing the original 13 American colonies.
The reverse side of each Indian Quarter Eagle features a bald eagle perched on top of several arrows. The bird has an olive branch in its right talon and the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is featured atop its head. To the left and right of the eagle are the phrases “E. Pluribus Unum” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” respectively.
