The 1999 Year of the Rabbit silver coin was the first issue of silver bullion in the Lunar Series I collection. The debut included 1 kilo, 10 oz, 2 oz, 1 oz, and 1/2 oz silver coins.
The Perth Mint announced a mintage cap on the 1 oz and 1/2 oz silver coins in 1999, setting those maximums at 300,000 and 500,000 coins, respectively. Neither coin came close to its maximum mintage, with these 1 oz silver coins finishing with sales of 63,644 coins.
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of 1999 Australian Silver Lunar Rabbit Coins. This design shows Her Majesty in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara and was designed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley.
A rabbit is featured in the reverse design of the 1999 1 oz Silver Lunar Rabbit. This image shows the rabbit seated, but upright on its hind legs. The right-profile relief shows the creature near a small patch of foliage.
