The 1998 release of Proof American Gold Eagle coins marked the third consecutive year of falling demand for the nation’s official collectible gold coin. The late 1990s saw falling demand for the coins, but 1998 would be the final year of consecutive drops for several years. The 1998 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coin is currently available to you online from JM Bullion with a perfect certification.
Coin Highlights:
The 1998 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coin experienced the greatest drop in demand. All four Proof Gold Eagles saw drops in demand starting in 1996 and continuing until the 1999 release. The 1 oz gold coin saw a low drop in 1997, due in large part to its inclusion in the Impressions of Liberty Set that year.
With no special set containing a 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle, the 1998 issue year experienced some catch up with the falling demand of the other coins. While the 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz coins dropped by less than 1,000 coins each, the 1 oz gold coin fell by more than 7,000. The 1/10 oz coin actually experienced a slight increase of just under 5,000 coins in 1998.
On the obverse side of 1998 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins is the image of Liberty created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Designed in 1907, it first appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle Coin through 1933.
The reverse face of 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagles features the image of bald eagles. This design was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek and features only on the American Gold Eagle coins.
These 1998 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins earned a perfect PF70 certification from the NGC. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws visible. The UCAM label included in the packaging denotes the presence of strong, frosted matte elements on the design and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
