The 1998 release of Proof American Gold Eagles was the final year of decline for the official collectible gold coin of the United States. Prior to the late 1990s, and into the early 2000s, demand for Proof Gold Eagles remained stable from year to year. The late 1990s, however, saw declining mintage figures for most coins. Today, 1998 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagles are available to you online from JM Bullion with perfect NGC certifications.

The 1998 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coin had the lowest drop in demand of any of the four coins released this year. The mintage of 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles was down just 302 coins from the 1997 issue, and was down 14,000 coins from its most-recent high from 1994 when more than 48,000 coins were struck.
All of the 1998 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagles available for purchase here today come with a perfect certification from the NGC. Coins in PF70 condition have full, original mint luster and have no detracting flaws visible on the designs or background fields.
The included UCAM label denotes the finish of the coins as ultra-cameo specimens. Proof coins with an ultra-cameo finish have an impressive visual contrast between the design and background field. The combined strong, frosted matte design and deeply-mirrored, clear background give the impression the design is floating above the coin’s surface.
On the obverse side of the 1998 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin is the image of Lady Liberty. Conceived in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this design of Liberty was the first of many beautiful new designs to feature on American coins in the early 20th century.
The reverse face of all 1998 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles, you’ll find the design of American bald eagles. In this design from Miley Busiek, a male eagle flies over the family nest as a female stands guard over a hatchling by protecting it under her wing.
