You can also hold many of these coins in a Precious Metals IRA, making them a versatile investment. Find out more about the 1998 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Coin you can purchase at JM Bullion below.
The obverse of this coin features what’s likely a familiar image for many numismatists. It’s taken from the historic $20 double eagle gold coins produced in the early part of the 20th century. The original image was designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for those early gold coins, and it’s been cleaned up for the modern American Eagle coin mintings to include more details and a 50-star border. An older use of this image was accompanied by fewer stars, as not all states had been ratified at the time of the double eagle gold coin mintings. The image itself is of Lady Liberty striding forward, the capitol building behind her. Rays of light reach up in the background, and she carries a torch and olive branch.
The reverse of the 1998 American Gold Eagle Coin is designed by Miley Busiek Frost and features two adult bald eagles and their nest. The male eagle is flying into the nest with an olive branch; the female eagle is sitting in the nest protecting her young. Busiek’s design was used starting with the first coins launched in the American Eagle Program in 1986. Legally, the mint can only choose to change the designs on coins in this program every 25 years, and Busiek’s iconic eagle image appears on American Eagle gold coins through 2020.
